LAURO

Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Riserva Classico DOCG

Sale price €31,95

Mattioli’s “LAURO” (“cru” vineyard ‘Mogliette’ at 300m a.s.l. in Serra de’ Conti) is a very refined, rich and elegant dry white wine made from 100% Verdicchio grapes.
The story behind the name LAURO: “At the end of the harvest days, our grandfather, together with the men and women who had helped him, used to sit at the edge of the vineyard in the shade of a thick Laurel hedge, to contemplate the sun going down on the horizon and talk about the difficulties and joys of their work. That Laurel hedge, perhaps less thick, still surrounds the vineyard and it is in memory of those moments of conviviality that we decided to dedicate the name of our wine to it.”

Harvested manually at full maturation (with a slight extra ripening ongoing as well). The vinification process is carried out with soft pressing and a fermentation taking place in steel tanks for 15/20 days at controlled temperature between 16/18°C).
Malo-lactic fermentation also carried for about 20%. Refining in steel tanks with frequent “batonnage” for a period of 18 to 20 months, the wine is bottled about 2 years following harvest, and then kept also resting for about 8-10 months before market release.
The appearance shows a beautiful straw-yellow in colour with golden highlights. The bouquet delivers rich aromas of mature fruit, particularly yellow peach and fragrant almond aromas, whilst keeping its freshness along the way.
The palate brings a perfect consistency with the nose, with a fresh start and a very pleasant roundness, nicely balanced by the alcohol. A very persistent and rich sip with a very long finish carrying notes of apple and almond.
Food-match: a stunning combination with seafood, asparagus & other grilled vegetables, or pasta. Wonderful on its own as well with its elegance and layered sip.
Recommended serving-temperature of 8°-10°C.
